Fokina Gets Easy Draw

Facing a native player on his soil generally can be problematic, but this time around Fokina got relatively lucky. The Spaniard is a far better player than his opponent and should not have any issues.

He’s been somewhat funky his entire career, but the way he approaches tennis, quite aggressively, bodes well in a matchup where he seems to overpower an opponent who hasn’t seen the type of level he can produce often.

Fokina is 30-27 this year, which is okay, but the 17-9 on hard courts is fairly impressive. On his best day, the Spaniard is almost impossible to beat but even his regular level should be good enough for Zhou.

Expect a rather swift two-set victory from Foki.

Zhou Hoping to Impress

Yi Zhou isn’t a very well-known player to the wider tennis audience, but we’ve seen a bit of him in recent weeks as the Tour slowly moved to East Asia. He’s a Chinese player who should see plenty of support from fans, which should help him.

We’ve seen that recently against Cristian Garin, but ultimately the Chilean got serious and finished off the match. I expect a similar effort from him here, but I don’t think he’ll give Fokina quite the same trouble.

He’ll break and win a few games, but I don’t see him handling the relentless attacking style of Fokina well. I’m open to being surprised, but his 10-14 record this year is not convincing.

Fokina v Zhou Prediction and Tip

I expect a very convincing 2-0 win from the Spaniard so you can combine that prediction anyway you want. I’ll suggest the under here.
