Svetlana Kuznetsova v Timea Bacsinszky Head to Head

The Russian leads Timea with a 4-0 lead, with two of those coming back in 2016. They last met in the Cincinnati Open where Kuznetsova won in three sets to reach the quarterfinal.

Bacsinszky Starts Strong

Bacsinszky, who at one point in time was a former top 10 player, started her campaign in Lugano with a clinical 6-0, 6-2 win over the German Tamara Korpatsch. That win marks the third time this season that the Swiss has won her opening match on the WTA Tour.

She has been struggling with her form for a considerably long period of time. The last time she won a title was back in 2016 – the same year she won the Olympics Gold Doubles with Martina Hingis.

The former China Open runner-up since then has undergone a massive drop in her form that took her out of the top 100. She spent most of her 2018 season struggling to move past the early rounds although, she did have some luck on the ITF circuit.

This season too, she only reached the third round in Indian Wells and Sydney – her best performances of the season.

Kuznetsova Looking to Move up Again

Just like Bacsinszky, Kuznetsova too enjoyed a steady rise in recent years. In 2017, she was a part of the top 10 following her brilliant run on the tour. In 2018, however, her form took a sharp hit and she gradually fell out of the top 100.

Throughout the season, she reached the quarterfinal on a tour event only twice. Later in the year, she won the Citi Open in Washington to stage a comeback. However, she failed to carry that form forward to subsequent tournaments.

Kuznetsova is currently ranked just three places above Bacsinszky at the 109th position. WTA Lugano is her first tournament of the season and she started with a tricky, three-set win over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opener.

Bacsinszky v Kuznetsova Predictions & Tips

With a 4-0 lead in the head to head tally and more experience than the Swiss, Kuznetsova will start this match as the favourite to win. However, she has been really rusty of late owing to her lack of playing time on the tour – something that Bacsinszky can very well capitalise on. This one can go either way.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/6 (Betway)
