Jiri Lehecka v Hamad Medjedovic Head to Head

Lehecka and Medjedovic have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Lehecka Eases Past Gerasimov

After having entered this tournament on the back of three successive wins at the Davis Cup a week ago, Lehecka kick-started his Astana Open campaign with a straight-set win over Egor Gerasimov in the second round here. He had a first round bye.

Lehecka was off to a blazing start before Gerasimov managed to put up a bit of a fight in the second set, but that proved to be a case of too little, too late.

The fourth seed was on court for an hour and 27 minutes before pipping his opponent 6-2, 7-6 (3) after saving two set-points in the second set. He had two match-points in the tie-breaker that followed that he squandered before winning it off the third.

He now faces an in-form Medjedovic in the quarterfinals and while he starts off a 2/5 favourite (with bet365), it doesn’t look like it will be that easy.

Medjedovic Continues Winning Streak

A title winner at the Mallorca Challenger, Medjedovic registered his seventh successive win in competitive tennis when he overcame Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets in the second round.

Following on from a first round rout of Laslo Djere, Medjedovic defeated Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4 to seal his quarterfinal berth, his second at this level in 2023.

In a match lasting an hour and 10 minutes, Medjedovic saved the only break-point he faced in the encounter, while overcoming Shevchenko’s serve on two occasions. He won 84% of his first serve points and lost only six of the second serve points to go with it.

Now coming up against Lehecka, Medjedovic will be a distant 19/10 to win this (with bet365) but given how he has gone about his business in recent times it won’t be a surprise if he makes life difficult for his Czech opponent here.

Lehecka v Medjedovic Prediction and Tip

Backing Medjedovic to cause a flutter here if not a surprise. Backing him to win a set if not the match itself.
