Etcheverry Finding Wins in China

Tomas Etcheverry is primarily known as a clay player and a very good, but he’s been finding some solid wins in China. The rather bouncy conditions give the Argentine plenty of time to set up from the baseline, and he’s been enjoying it. The Zhuhai experience ended with a loss to Sebastian Korda, and he’ll try to avoid that here.

Ruud is tough opponent, a player he never played before but also one that doesn’t give away too much. He’ll need to play a pretty solid match and hope that neither being on their preferred surface will help him.

He’s had a pretty decent season so far, with 36 wins and 24 losses. Most of those came on clay, but he’s been okay on hard courts, with 8 wins and 8 losses. Whether he can get his 9th win remains to be seen because it’s not the ideal matchup.

Ruud has played more on hard courts and has a nasty forehand which can be tough to handle. Etcheverry can serve well, and that’s one thing he’ll need in this matchup.

Ruud Back to Winning

Casper Ruud didn’t have a very good US Open despite playing in the final the year before. The Norwegian has now won two matches in a row, the first one in the Laver Cup and now one in Beijing as well. It was a solid performance in China, and he hopes to build upon that with this match.

It’s a new matchup for him as he never played his next opponent, but on paper, he’s a huge favourite. He’s far more experienced on hard courts, having played twice as many matches as him on the surface.

Even so, he’s got a worse record on the surface at 8-9. Overall 32-18, so not too bad, though quite a bit below what many expected from him. Still, the momentum is on his side, so expect him to get this one done.

The forehand will need to carry the bulk of the load, but it’s shown itself to be rather reliable.

Etcheverry v Ruud Prediction and Tip

As I said above Ruud is both the better player and has more experience on hard courts. I’d be pretty shocked if that’s not enough to win this match comfortably.
