Maria Sakkari v Linda Fruhvirtova Head to Head

Sakkari and Fruhvirtova have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Sakkari’s Seven-Match Winning Run Ended Last Week

Sakkari had been in a lot of trouble with her form but came back nicely in the last two tournaments she featured in. Over the course of those two, Sakkari won seven matches to go with one defeat and even that defeat came at the hands of the fourth-ranked Jessica Pegula.

Before that, a title victory at the Guadalajara Open was just the second of her career, breaking a hoodoo that had been bogging her down to an extent.

While one might argue that quite a few of the top players were missing from that WTA 1000 tournament, she still needed to overcome the likes of Camila Giorgi and Caroline Garcia on the way to the win.

She would beat Garcia yet again in Tokyo before meeting her match but it does look like her past form is behind her for now. She will start off a heavy favourite here.

Fruhvirtova Registers Crushing Win over Rus

Much like Sakkari, Fruhvirtova was also in a bit of a spot before coming into the Ningbo Open last week. In fact, Fruhvirtova’s problems looked more pronounced with the Czech having lost nine matches in a row going into the first round in Ningbo.

Her turnaround came in the very first round when she came back from being a set down to go past the injured Rebeka Masarova. This was followed by wins over Anna Blinkova and Lucia Bronzetti before the Czech lost to Diana Shnaider in the semis.

Any question-marks over whether those streak of wins were a one-off were put to rest when she sent Arantxa Rus packing in the first round here in double quick time. Needing an hour and 25 minutes alone, Fruhvirtova registered a crushing 6-0, 6-3 win over Rus to reach the second round.

In doing so, she broke her opponent five times while saving eight of the nine break-points there were on her serve.

She might not have it easy against Sakkari but could put up a keen tussle here.

Sakkari v Fruhvirtova Prediction and Tip

Sakkari will be a huge favourite here, both on paper and on court and we think she will make it through even if Fruhvirtova brings out her A game here. One of the sets could bring out a keen fight.
