Medvedev Edges Past De Minaur
World no. 3 Daniil Medvedev edged out Alex de Minaur in a two set second round contest on Saturday.
The Russian had squandered a two-break advantage as De Minaur fought back from 2-5 down in the first set. But eventually Medvedev regrouped and took the opener in the tiebreak.
Medvedev had a much better second set. He did not face a single break point and converted 1 of 3 to win the two hour contest 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Playing for the first time since his runner-up finish at the US Open, Medvedev had beaten Tommy Paul 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.
Medvedev has had a solid season so far. The 20-time tour level champion has won five titles from seven finals in 2023.
If he wins his quarterfinal match on Monday, he will reach the final four stage for a 10th time this year.

Humbert Stuns Rublev
World no. 36 Ugo Humbert upset the fifth seed Andre Rublev in the second round on Saturday.
The left-handed French player faced elimination as Rublev served for the match at 5-3 in the final set. But Humbert broke the Russian to love to stay alive in the contest and then raised to victory in the deciding set tiebreak.
Humbert won the two hour and 50 minute contest 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Ranked 36th in the world, the 25-year-old had also won the opening round match in three sets, beating Lorenzo Sonego 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.
Humbert, who won two Challenger titles from three finals, will be looking to reach a third tour level semifinal of the season.

Medvedev has not beaten Humbert before, so the Russian will feel a bit of pressure. But Medvdev is a far more accomplished player and also in fine form. Expect him to beat the Frenchman and advance to the semifinals.
