Caroline Garcia v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings at the highest level and both have won one. The first came in 2014 but the more recent one was in Madrid earlier this year where Garcia clinched a straight-set victory.

Garcia Eases Past Baindl

Garcia’s recent form woes have been well-chronicled but the good news for the Frenchwoman is that she has shown some signs of improvement. The needle has moved in the right direction for Garcia after she made the semifinal of the WTA 1000 event in Guadalajara.

She went down to Maria Sakkari in that tournament and followed up with another loss to that same opponent in Tokyo where she had made the quarterfinal.

Starting out a 1/4 favourite here (with 888Sport) against Kateryna Baindl, Garcia did not face a lot of problems in getting past her opponent. In a match that lasted only an hour and 14 minutes, Garcia faced just two break-points and was broken only once in her 6-2, 6-4 drubbing of Baindl.

The Frenchwoman bagged a couple of breaks in the first set to take the lead and while she was a break of serve down at 3-4 in the second, she responded by winning the next three games to bag the win.

Can she now pull away from the slightly trickier Putintseva?

Putintseva Stuns Bouzkova

Putintseva had made it to the main draw with straight-set wins over Jodie Burrage and Elina Avanesyan but was a 6/4 (with 888Sport) underdog in her opener against the highly fancied Marie Bouzkova.

Two hours and eight minutes later, Putintseva had found a way to break the proverbial Bouzkova’s back as she registered a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over her Czech opponent.

The first set was a relatively straightforward one for Putintseva as she broke Bouzkova twice to claim the victory. Bouzkova got into her own by breaking Putintseva two times in the second set to grab a 3-0 lead but Putintseva came back strongly to level things out at 4-4.

She would go on to capture the tie-breaker that followed off her first match-point.

A semifinalist at the Guangzhou Open and having made the quarterfinal in Osaka, Putintseva is showing some solid form heading into this encounter against a top-10 player.

Garcia v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

Garcia’s form might have improved but she is still some way off her best. Putintseva, on the hand, has played some of her best tennis in a while, recently. Backing a close one here that goes into the third set.
