Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev Head to Head

There have been 16 previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev holds a narrow 9-7 edge over Zverev.

Interestingly, they have already played each other four times this season and Medvedev leads 3-1 which includes a win in Indian Wells. Zverev won their previous meeting at the Cincinnati Masters.

Medvedev Stumbles Across against Humbert

It was supposed to be Medvedev’s most straightforward win of the tournament if you were to believe the bookmakers. Instead, it ended up taking Medvedev three sets to go past Ugo Humbert and seal his semifinal berth.

Medvedev was on court for two hours and seven minutes and overcame the loss of his serve on four occasions in the encounter to come through against Humbert. He won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 as he managed to overcome his opponent’s serve six times.

Earlier in the tournament, the US Open semifinalist Medvedev had eased past Tommy Paul and Alex de Minaur in straight sets to set up this meeting.

And by going past Humbert, Medvedev improved to 36-6 in outdoor hardcourt competitions for the season and 41-6 overall on hardcourt surfaces. Can he now come through against his arch-rival to make it to second successive final having done that at the US Open too?

Zverev Scrapes Past Jarry

The turnaround to Zverev’s season had come in Hamburg in July where he went on to win his first title of the year.

Since then he has made the semifinal of the Cincinnati Masters, quarterfinals at the US Open and went on to win the title in Chengdu last week. In all of these tournaments, Zverev’s losses had come against Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

No surprises then that he was a whopping 7/20 favourite (at 888Sport) to defeat Nicolas Jarry in his quarterfinal and extend his winning streak to seven matches.

Zverev, who had played three-setters against both, Diego Schwatzman and Fokina in the previous two rounds here, was stretched to another one of those by Jarry before he clinched his semifinal berth. He won 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to win the round.

Against Medvedev he will need all of those fighting qualities but at the same time he will need to do a lot better with his serving than he has all tournament.

Medvedev v Zverev Prediction and Tip

Backing Medvedev to get one back against Zverev here but like most matches between these two players, it won’t be that easy.
