Elena Rybakina v Tatjana Maria Head to Head

Rybakina and Maria will be facing off for the first time in their careers.

Match Winning Odds*

Rybakina Brushes Qinwen Away

Despite ranked fifth in the world, Rybakina was not as short as one would have expected going into her opening round match against Qinwen Zheng. 888Sport offered 3/5 for her win.

That could have been down to two factors – her opponent, a local, is herself 23rd on the WTA charts, but more vitally Rybakina herself hasn’t been in the best of form. At least not as good as one would have expected from the world number five.

What followed in the match, however, was absolute carnage.

Rybakina needed just 62 minutes to brush Qinwen away, winning 6-1, 6-2 in a match which saw Qinwen not earn a single break-point. On the other hand, Rybakina broke the Chinese player four times and clinched the victory.

She now starts off a favourite to make the third round as she takes on a player who has been managing to hold on close to her career-best ranking of 46th.

Maria Quells the Trevisan Challenge

Martina Trevisan is more known for her performances on clay but one must quickly add that she had shown some sparkle in hardcourt tennis as well more recently.

Which is why, while Maria had started off a favourite in their opener, she was a mere 4/5 (with 888Sport) to win this one.

Maria did face a few roadblocks but in the end, clinched her second round berth with a straight-set win. In a match lasting an hour and 47 minutes, Maria was a 6-3, 7-6 (2) winner despite losing her serve a whopping four times in the encounter.

A semifinalist at the Cleveland Open and a quarterfinalist in Guangzhou in what have been Maria’s best performances over the last two months, she grabbed a quick couple of breaks in the first set to take the lead.

The second set was a lot tougher with Trevisan proving to be a sticky customer. Maria had two chances to serve for the match but was broken both times before Trevisan finally caved away in the tie-breaker.

Can Maria now put up a stellar showing against Rybakina as well?

Rybakina v Maria Prediction and Tip

For all of Maria’s fighting displays, Rybakina could be a bridge too far. Backing Rybakina for a straight-set win.
