Caroline Garcia v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and Garcia won that in Tokyo last week.

Garcia v Kalinina Match Winning Odds*

Garcia Needs Three Sets against Putintseva

Such has been Garcia’s form lately that one couldn’t have been sure of her win over a player ranked 75th in the world. Which is why while Garcia had gone into her second round encounter against Yulia Putintseva as a favourite it wasn’t like she had very short odds – with bet365 offering 3/5 for her victory.

Having eased past Kateryna Baindl in the first round, Garcia was put to the sword by Putintseva but she scraped through in the end in three sets.

The world number 10 was on court for two hours and 16 minutes and overcame an early break-point in the decider to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and made the third round. This was after Garcia was forced to save a whopping 11 break-points in the match as well.

Garcia will now face a slightly better player on paper but with the confidence that she had beaten her opponent as recently as the previous week.

Kalinina Ease Past Saville

Having stunned Marketa Vondrousova in the first round, Kalinina did not have face any trouble in the second from the Aussie Daria Saville.

Kalinina was on court for an hour and 47 minutes as she grabbed a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win against Saville to seal her first set of successive wins in a tournament since May.

The match looked to be headed in her favour in a straightforward manner when she broke the Aussie twice in the first set before taking a 2-0 lead in the second. While Saville broke back in the fourth game, Kalinina had a chance to serve it out in the 12th game too.

Saville managed to prevent that but in the tie-breaker that followed Kalinina clinched the victory off her second match-point.

With that second round hoodoo past her, Kalinina will now look to avenge her last week’s defeat to Garcia when they meet again in China.

Garcia v Kalinina Prediction and Tip

Garcia should start off a favourite here with the possibility of a three-setter always there.
