Djere to Make Shanghai Debut
Laslo Djere will be playing in the Shanghai Masters for the first time in his career.
The world no. 37 heads into the tournament with a 32-22 season record behind him. Djere had a slow start to the season, but has done pretty well since July.
Djere reached his fifth ATP final and his only final of the season in Hamburg, but could not add to his previous titles. The Serbian then reached the semifinals in Kitzbuhel and the quarterfinals in Winston-Salem, before going down in the third round of the US Open in a dramatic five-setter against Novak Djokovic.
More recently, he finished with a 2-1 record at the Davis Cup, and then retired from his first round contest in Astana last week, retiring while trailing Hamad Medjedovic 6-3, 2-1.
It will be interesting to see if Djere has recovered from his injury that forced him out in Astana.

Hijikata Beats Lock to Qualify
World no. 76 Rinky Hijikata made it to the main draw with a straight sets win over benjamin Lock in the second qualifying round on Tuesday.
Broken twice in the match, Hijikata converted 5 of 9 break points to beat the Zimbabwean 6-1, 6-4.
The Australian had beaten the Czech Republic’s Marek Gengel 6-3, 6-2 in the first qualifying round.
Hijikata is 10-9 at the tour level this season and will be playing only his second Masters 1000 tournament. He is 39-30 across levels this year.
Among the highlights of Hijikata’s season so far was a fourth round debut at the US Open. He also featured in the semifinals in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, while at the Challenger level, he won the title at Burnie, Australia but finished runner-up in Cary, USA last month.
Last week, he was knocked out of the first round in Zhuhai. Can he start off well in Shanghai?
