Lorenzo Sonego v Philip Sekulic Head to Head

The two have never met before.

Sonego v Sekulic Match Winning Odds*

Sonego Has a 23-24 Tour Level Record in 2023

Lorenzo Sonego has had a roller coaster season so far. He has looked good at time, but has not been able to make too many deep runs.

His best this year was a semifinal finish in Umag. Additionally he made it to the round of 16 in Roland Garros and Miami and featured in the quarterfinals in Dubai and Montpellier.

Other than those performances, the world no. 56 has mostly struggled to win on a consistent basis. In the last four individual tournaments that he has played in, Sonego has not been able to win consecutive matches.

These tournaments include a first round defeat in Toronto, back to back second round exits from Cincinnati and the US Open and a first round defeat to Ugo Humbert in Beijing.

Sonego has however done well at the Davis Cup, winning two matches after losing the first singles.

The Italian will make his second appearance at the Shanghai Masters, after being knocked out in the first round in 2018.

He has a 24-31 record at the Masters level with his best being a semifinal finish in Rome in 2021.

Sekulic Qualifies for Another Main Draw

Philip Sekulic scored back-to-back straight set wins to enter the main draw of a tour level event for the second time in his career.

The 20-year-old Aussie, ranked no. 292nd in the world, had made it to the main draw in Chengdu two weeks ago. He went on to beat Nuno Borges in the first round after winning both his qualifying round matches, and then gave Lorenzo musetti a tough fight before going down in the second round in Chengdu.

In Shanghai, Sekulic defeated Japan’s Kaichi Uchida 6-3, 7-6 in the first qualifying round and then defeated France’s Arthur Weber 6-4, 6-3.

Sekulic has an overall record of 35-22 this season. He was initially mostly seen in the Futures tournaments, and then reached the final in Granby.

Back-to-bck main draw appearances at the ATP level will boost his confidence. Can he make another impressive start and shock the top 60 player?
