Sara Sorribes Torma v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

The pair have met once before in the quarter-final of Seoul, playing on hard courts, with the Brazilian winning in straight sets.

Clay Court Specialist Sorribes Torma Looking for Confidence Boost

Spaniard Sorribes Torma is a clay court specialist, with six out her seven ITF tournament titles coming on her favourite surface. The world number 79 came into this event looking for confidence and form ahead of the European season, and enjoyed a comfortable win against Christina McHale of the United States in her first round match.

However, her second round match against Ana Bogdan of Romania turned into a real battle, and she had to rely on her serve to get her out of trouble in the end, as she won in three gruelling sets. She will need her serve to be equally as effective against Haddad Maia.

Haddad Maia Returning after Injury Problems

Although she has been ranked in the world’s top 80, Haddad Maia had dropped down to her current position as 150 in the world, following an injury-hit 2018.

She first suffered a left wrist injury in Charleston which necessitated a month’s lay-off, and then was struck by a back injury which required surgery, and another long lay-off.

However, she has got considerable history with this tournament, having won the doubles title twice, first in 2015 when she was partnered with Paula Cristina Goncalves, and then again two years later with Nadia Podoroska.

And she has again shown that form this week. Coming through the qualifying after two tough three set matches, she beat Laura Siegemund of Germany in the first round in straight sets, and then overcame the number four seed, Anna Karolina Schmeiedlova, again in straight sets.

Sorribes Torma v Haddad Maia Predictions & Tips

Despite being the lower ranked and non-seeded player Haddad Maia starts this match at the odds-on favourite at 10/13, whilst Sorribes is priced at 15/13. This reflects the Brazilian’s liking for this tournament, and previous victory over her opponent, but it is likely to be a close match.

Tip: Sorribes Torma to win: 11/10 (Bovada)
