Diego Schwartzman v Taylor Fritz Head to Head
The two men have met each other only once before, in the 2016 European Open. The Argentine won that match in straight sets to proceed to the quarterfinal.
Schwartzman, Looking Strong on Clay
Earlier this season, Schwartzman delivered a brilliant performance in the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. He reached the fifth singles final of his career, losing to Marco Cecchinato in the final. However, that defeat didn’t come before he knocked out the likes of Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Dominic Thiem.
That was among the Argentine’s better runs this season. In the Sydney International, he reached the semifinal while in the Australian Open, he reached the third round.
However, the 2018 Rio Open champion couldn’t carry that momentum forward to big events. Most notably in the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open, he lost in the early rounds. As for his run in Marrakech, he started his journey with a three-set win over the number 17 seed Kyle Edmund.
Fritz, A Rising Start with a Lot to Offer
The 21-year-old American has had a rather mediocre season so far although, by no means is he a player to be taken lightly.
He won the Newport Beach Challenger in January, preceded by a third-round run in the Australian Open and ATP Auckland. In the two tournaments, he defeated the likes of John Isner, Gael Monfils, and Cameron Norrie.
However, in his last four tournaments, Fritz has failed to move past the first round. His last competition was in Houston, where he lost his opening game to Marcel Granollers. In Monte-Carlo, he got an early walkover after his first-round opponent Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew from the match.
Schwartzman v Fritz Predictions & Tips
Schwartzman will start this match as the favourite to win. He is the clear odds-on favourite here and he shouldn’t have any difficulties in moving past the early rounds. At the same time, Fritz will certainly challenge him to the fullest and put up an excellent fight. This one should be an interesting game to watch.
