Borna Coric v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head
The two players have met only once before on the ATP Tour. That meeting took place in the 2017 Madrid Masters, where Coric won 7-5, 6-4.
Coric Looking to Make Some Gains
Coric’s season so far has been pretty good by all standards although, he will be hoping to make a more discernible impact now.
The 22-year-old started the season in Melbourne where he reached the fourth round. Later, he reached the semifinal in ATP Dubai and the quarterfinal in the Miami Masters. Between these events, Coric has also had his fair share of early exits, most notably in Indian Wells and Marseille.
The reigning ATP Halle champion hasn’t looked that comfortable in Monte-Carlo but he has done the job. In the first round, he defeated Hubert Hurkacz in three sets and later, he moved past Jaume Munar with 6-7(3), 7-6(7), 6-4.
A Chance for Herbert to Make a Dent
Pierre-Hugues Herbert has reached the third round in Monte-Carlo after delivering what are undoubtedly some of the best wins of his career.
In the opener, Herbert edged past Fernando Verdasco in straight sets. Then, he met Kei Nishikori in the second round and despite all odds stacked against him, the Frenchman came out as the victor with 7-5, 6-4.
With a stunning upset right in the second round, Herbert has staked his claim as a force to be reckoned with. The last time he had a run like this was in Montpellier, where he defeated Denis Shapovalov and Tomas Berdych to reach the final. However, he ultimately lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
However, Herbert’s last couple of events on the tour haven’t been that grand. He lost in the first round in Sunshine Doubles while in Marrakech, he lost in the second round to Benoit Paire.
Coric v Herbert Predictions & Tips
On paper, Coric will start this match as the favourite to win. He has been in a much better form than his French adversary and looks quite confident too. However, Herbert has just delivered a stunning upset and is well-versed with playing against top players.
It will be interesting to see if the Frenchman can continue his remarkable run in Monte-Carlo although, Coric is sure to make his job a whole lot difficult.
