Anastasijia Sevastova v Anastisia Potapova Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 29-year-old Latvian, and the woman eleven years her junior.

Sevastova Enjoying Her Second Career

The world number 13 Sevastova is enjoying her second tennis career, having retired once from the sport in 2013 due to illness and injury.

However, she returned to the tour in 2015 and has experienced more success in her second coming than she did in her first, adding the 2017 Mallorca Open, and last year’s Bucharest Open to the Portugal Open title she won back in 2010.

This year her best result came in the Australian Open where lost a tight fourth round match to Naomi Osaka in three sets. More recently she reached the quarter-final in Stuttgart before going down in three sets to the eventual winner Petra Kvitova.

Coming into this tournament, the Latvian was a first round loser at Charleston before her quarter-final at Stuttgart and hasn’t won more than one match in any of the five tournaments she had played before that run-up in Germany.

Potapova, A Former Junior World Number One

Potapova may not be a familiar name to many, but she is a former junior world number one, and, in 2016, won the Wimbledon girls’ title.

Now she is beginning her career on the senior tour, having just passed her 18th birthday, and she has already reached two WTA finals – enjoying unexpected runs in both the Moscow River Cup and the Tashkent Open last year, although she lost them both. She does, though, have one junior title to her name, winning the ITF Curitiba event in 2017.

Her best result this year came in the Budapest Open where she reached the quarter-final. She also won her first Grand Slam singles match at the Australian Open, beating Pauline Parmentier of France.

Sevastova v Potapova Predictions & Tips

Sevastova will start the heavy odds-on favourite at 2/9, whilst Potapova is priced at 15/4. This is a battle between a player with years of experience, and one who has almost none. It is hard to see beyond an easy win for the Latvian.
