Diego Schwartzman v Benoit Paire Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, both times in the Rome Masters. In 2015, Schwartzman beat Paire in the final, but, three years later, the Frenchman got his revenge in a second round encounter. Both matches went to three sets though.

Schwartzman, Looking for Better Form Ahead of Rome and Paris

After reaching the quarter finals at Roland Garros last year, Schwartzman rose to a career high world ranking of eleven, but since then there has been a slow decline, with his best result coming in his home tournament of Buenos Aires in February. There he reached the final only to be thrashed by the Italian Marco Cecchinato.

He did win the qualifying tournament in Monte Carlo, but was beaten in the main event by Dominic Thiem. That loss joined a list of other recent tournament exits including Indian Wells, Miami, and Acapulco.

With Rome and Roland Garros looming on the horizon, he will be hoping to rediscover his best form soon.

Paire, A Winner in Morocco

Unlike Schwartzman, 29-year-old Paire does have a recent victory on his CV, having won the Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco earlier this month.

That though was his first major ATP title for nearly four years, although, on the junior tour, he did reach the final of the Casino Admiral Trophy in Spain last month, going down in the final to Spaniard Pablo Andujar – a man, ironically enough, who he would beat in that Marrakesh final.

Knowing for his willingness to play to the crowd, Paire can be relied upon to liven things up if the match with Schwartzman becomes too dour.

Schwartzman v Paire Predictions & Tips

Schwartzman will start odds-on favourite at 8/11, whilst Paire is priced at 23/17. The Argentine is favoured because of his higher world ranking, but, in practice, there may be little between them. Their previous two matches went to three sets, and it would not be a surprise to see that repeated here.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets: 4/1 (888Sport)
