Johanna Konta v Alison Riske Head to Head
The two ladies have met only once, in the 2013 WTA Nottingham. Konta won that match in three sets.
Konta Looking Impressive
Konta arrived in Madrid shortly after her superb performance in the Morroco Open last week. Starting as the seventh seed, she defeated Yafan Wang, Ana Bogdan, and Su-Wei Hsieh to reach her first clay court semifinal. Then, she moved past Ajla Tomljanovic to reach the first final on the tour since Nottingham last year.
While she lost ultimately to Maria Sakkari, despite being up a set and a break, it certainly goes on to show a massive improvement in her form. Apart from this, Konta also reached the quarterfinal in Acapulco and third round in the Indian Wells.
And of course, she also has a lot of winning experience with good results in the China Open and Miami Open through the years. Of course, she may be struggling with her form right now but she is certainly capable of turning it around.
Riske in Need of a Resurgence
Alison Riske began the season with a runner-up feat in Shenzhen, where she lost ultimately to Aryna Sabalenka. Since then, she has spent most of her time on the tour in futile attempts to repeat that run again.
Her best results since that exciting run came in Dubai and Doha, where she reached the round of 16. As for Riske’s performance in the Sunshine Doubles, it was not eventful at all, with early exits in Miami and Indian Wells. Her last event was in Monterrey where she lost her first round match to Sachia Vickery.
Riske was the runner-up in the Nuremberg Cup last year, losing to Johanna Larsson in the final. She has some experience on clay, just like Konta and it will be interesting to see how she plays here.
Konta v Riske Predictions & Tips
This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. Konta will start this match as the odds-on favourite but given her shaky form throughout this season, it may not be a clinical win for her. Riske is a tough competitor and will certainly put up a good fight.
