Rafael Nadal v Kei Nishikori Head to Head

The two players have met 12 times on the ATP circuit with Nadal leading 10-2. Nishikori’s only wins have come against Nadal at the 2016 Olympics and at the ATP Masters in Toronto.

King of Clay Closing In On Another Roland Garros Weekend

Rafael Nadal continues his quest for his 12th French Open title as he has qualified for another French Open quarter final. Nadal continued his dominance at Roland Garros with another straight set win in the fourth round over Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero. Nadal looked in control throughout with a 6-2/6-3/6-3 win ending the Italian’s dream run at the French Open.

After a third-round encounter against David Goffin, where Nadal dropped a set, there was not lapses for the Spaniard this time around.

Nadal’s clay court season has gone from strength to strength and he can be expected to be close to his best with potentially three matches between him and the title now. With all aspects of his game now firing on all cylinders, Nadal will look for a straightforward quarter final encounter with potential clashes against Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic thereafter.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner’s next opponent is Japan’s Kei Nishikori.

Marathon Five Set Veteran Nishikori Wins Another

Seventh seed Kei Nishikori has qualified for his third French Open quarter final, but never progressed further. Nishikori, who was once ranked as high as number three in the world, has recovered strongly from a long injury lay off, where he was playing ATP Challenger tournaments a little more than 12 months back. The Japanese has moved back into the top ten of the ATP rankings as well.

Nishikori comes into the quarter finals, after recovering twice in the last two rounds, to beat Benoit Paire and Laslo Djere in marathon five setters, and will definitely be feeling the fatigue as a result. Among the best court coverage on the tour, Nishikori has a strong return of serve and with good groundstrokes, has a game well suited to the clay.

Nishikori has qualified for the quarter finals of each major on multiple occasions, also being a US Open finalist, in 2014.

Rafael Nadal v Kei Nishikori Predictions & Tips

Nishikori is comfortable on the clay and has consistently been a good performer this swing. However, he is up against the “King of Clay” at the business end of the French Open. Also, Nishikori has had back-to-back long five setters against Paire and Djere. Expect a good battle on the cards, but Nadal will have too many weapons for the tired Japanese legs. Nadal to win in three to four sets.

Tip: Four sets in the match: 4/1 (888Sport)
