Marketa Vondrousova v Petra Martic Head to Head
The two ladies have met four times on the WTA Tour already and Martic has been the winner on all the four occasions. They last met in the final of the 2019 WTA Istanbul, where the veteran Croat won 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Vondrousova with a Career-Defining Run
The young Czech has so far had a season to be truly proud of – a couple of quarterfinal runs in the Sunshine Doubles and reaching the final in Budapest and Istanbul. With 22 wins and just 6 losses this year, Vondrousova’s rise to prominence has been quite sensational.
She started the season as World No. 73 and now, she is on the verge of breaking into the top 30. The teenager has already registered wins over the likes of Simona Halep, Barbora Strycova, Daria Kasatkina, among others.
She continued playing in the same vein in the Roland Garros, reaching the quarterfinal without dropping a single set. Right off the bat, she knocked out Yafan Wang and built on it with a couple of efficient wins over Anastasia Potapova and Carla Suarez Navarro.
In the fourth round, Vondrousova subdued Anastasija Sevastova with 6-2, 6-0. That win also marked her best singles performance in a Grand Slam.
Martic, Looking Confident
Martic has been one of the few players this season to have actually performed well on the clay surface. A majority of her wins came on this surface, including her quarterfinal run in Madrid most recently.
Having reached the semifinal in Charleston and winning the event in Istanbul, Martic arrived in Paris as a strong opponent and so far, has certainly exceeded expectations. She started off with comfortable wins over Ons Jabeur and Kristina Mladenovic. Then, she delivered one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by knocking out World No. 2 Karolina Pliskova in straight sets.
In the fourth round against Kaia Kanepi, she faced some resistance but managed to keep her at bay and won the match after staging a comeback.
Just like Vondrousova, Martic too has got some good wins to her name this season, most notably Kerber, Garbine Muguruza, and Belinda Bencic.

This is a fixture that can very well go either way. The French Open this year has been full of surprises and it is hard to predict the winner here. However, Vondrousova will begin as the favourite, given her consistency on the tour this season.
