Anisimova on a Roll!
The 17-year-old Anisimova has delivered what is undoubtedly the best performance of her career so far. She has made it to the quarterfinal in Paris without dropping a single set.
She was placed in a comparatively easy bracket, which got easier with the withdrawal of Petra Kvitova. On her way to the quarters, she dispatched Harmony Tan, Aryna Sabalenka, and Irina-Camelia Begu. Anisimova’s most recent opponent was Aliona Bolsova, whom she defeated 6-3, 6-0.
Earlier this season, Anisimova demonstrated her proficiency on clay when she won the Bogota Open, winning the first title of her career. With that, she also reached the second round in the Italian Open and the fourth round in the Australian Open.
Halep Continues to be Clinical
Halep’s bid to defend her title in Paris has gone according to the plan so far. Following what can only be described as a shaky start – battling for three sets against Ajla Tomljanovic and Magda Linette, she found her rhythm and got back to her usual self.
The Romanian then defeated Lesia Tsurenko and Iga Swiatek in straight sets, losing just four games in the process.
Halep is looking to win her first singles title this season and it couldn’t come at a better time than in Paris. She lost in the final of the Italian Open and WTA Doha although, she did reach the latter rounds in other events to stay in the top five.

After a humbling win over the 18-year-old Polish in the fourth round, it wouldn’t be surprising if Halep manages to repeat the same feat against Anisimova too. She is light years ahead in terms of experience and as skilful as the young American may be, it is still difficult to imagine her topple the defending champion. Expect fierce competition here.
