Caroline Garcia v Elena-Gabriela Ruse Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

An Inspiring Run for Young Romanian

The 21-year-old Elena-Gabriela Ruse is heading into this fixture after delivering what has been among her better performances on the tour this year.

She started her run in Nottingham with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Evgeniya Rodina. Post that, she dispatched Viktorija Golubic in three sets to reach her first WTA quarterfinal on the circuit this year. Interestingly, Ruse made it to the main draw in the event as a qualifier and so far, has done quite well!

The Romanian has spent most of this season playing mainly on the ITF circuit, where she has had some success. Currently ranked in the late 130s, she reached the semifinal in Grenoble, Osprey, and Dothan, and the final in Yokohama. Ruse has six ITF singles titles to her name till date although, she is yet to win one on the grass surface.

Garcia Looking Impressive in Nottingham

Garcia, who at one point in time was a top 10 player, hasn’t had that great of a run this year. The former China Open winner fell out of the top 20 and has been trying to make her way back since then.

Following a rather mediocre performance in Melbourne, Miami, and Madrid, she played in Strasbourg. It is there that the top-seeded Frenchwoman reached her first singles final on the tour since the Tianjin Open last season. While she was primed to go the distance, Garcia ultimately lost to Dayana Yastremska.

However, she failed to build on this form in the French Open and lost in the second round to Anna Blinkova in a shocking upset. In Nottingham, she is attempting to move that form around and so far, has done a decent job.

She defeated the likes of Naiktha Bains and Maia Lumsden in straight sets to reach the quarters.

Garcia v Ruse Predictions & Tips

Caroline Garcia will start this match as the favourite to win. She has the experience and is in a much better form than before. Ruse, on her part, can pose a lot of problems for the Frenchwoman but ultimately, it is hard to imagine her topple Garcia.

Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
