Kristina Mladenovic v Donna Vekic Head to Head

Mladenovic currently holds a 2-1 lead over Vekic. They last met in the Australian Open this season where Vekic finally managed to bag a win over her French opponent in straight sets.

Vekic – A Former Champion in Nottingham

The 22-year-old Vekic won the tournament back in 2017 when she defeated Johanna Konta in the final in three sets. Of course, the young Croat has come a long way since then as she is currently enjoying her career-best singles ranking at World No. 22.

She has had a few good runs this season, most notably in the St. Petersburg Open and WTA Acapulco, where she reached the final and the semifinal respectively.

Her form took a slight dip of late, seeing that in the clay swing she managed to reach the round of 16 in Madrid and the French Open. In the latter, she ultimately fell to Johanna Konta but not before upsetting Belinda Bencic.

As for Vekic’s run in Nottingham, she started as the second seed and so far, has done quite well to keep up the momentum. She had to fight hard in her opening round game against Dalila Jakupovic but then, she found her groove as she easily dispatched Chloe Paquet with 6-1, 6-2.

Mladenovic – Doubles No. 1

At 26-years-old, Mladenovic has become the Doubles No. 1 after a scintillating performance in the French Open with Timea Babos. They won the women’s doubles title in Paris, making it a second one for the Frenchwoman. The duo also won the doubles title in Istanbul and reached the final in the Australian Open.

However, Mladenovic hasn’t been able to replicate that performance on the singles tour. Ranked in the late 40s, the best she has done is reach the quarterfinal in the Italian Open as a qualifier. It was among her better runs in a long time, seeing that she defeated Bencic and Ashleigh Barty on her way.

In the French Open, she lost to Petra Martic early in the second round but made up for it in Nottingham. She has had a pretty easy path so far, defeating Magdalena Frech and Astra Sharma.

Mladenovic v Vekic Predictions & Tips

Vekic will start this match as the odds-on favourite, given her superior form this season. At the same time, Mladenovic is not a player to be taken lightly. She has a lot of experience and can very well topple the Croat. Expect this one to be a three-setter.

Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
