Marin Cilic v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

Cilic and Schwartzman have met three times, with the Croat currently leading the series 2-1. This will be their first meeting on grass.

Defending Champion Cilic Looks To Gather Momentum Ahead of Wimbledon

It has not been a spectacular season for Marin Cilic by any means as he seeks his first title of the 2019. The Croat has overcome injury troubles from the start of the year which played a major role in his defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut in the fourth round of Australian Open.

Cilic would struggle to hit top form as he won only one match between Dubai and the start of the Madrid Open, losing in the first round in four of the five tournaments he competed in during that time.

His renaissance began in Madrid where he saved match-points in the first round against Martin Klizan en route to his first quarterfinal appearance of 2019. However, the Croatian superstar was a victim of food poisoning which forced him to withdraw from his scheduled collision against World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the Spanish capital.

After letting slip a 2-1 sets lead in defeat against Grigor Dimitrov at Roland Garros in the second round, Cilic began his grass court season in style when he beat an in-form Cristian Garin at Queen’s to start his title defence. Next up will be the diminutive Argentine Diego Schwartzman.

Schwartzman Has Fared Slightly Better Than The Croatian In 2019

Diego Schwartzman dismissed qualifier Alexander Bublik 6-2 6-3 in 52 minutes to get his grass court season off to a positive start. The diminutive Argentine will hope to fare better against Cilic than the last time they took to court where he lost in just 72 minutes at the Toronto Masters.

Schwartzman had briefly re-entered the World’s Top 20 following his fantastic run to the semifinals at the Italian Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic in a breathtaking three-setter. But after a second round defeat at the French Open to his fellow countryman Leonardo Mayer, he has slipped a few spots to No.23.

The 26-year-old has an awful record on grass as evidenced by his second round appearance at Wimbledon which he achieved last year. That remains to be his notable achievement at SW19, and despite having enjoyed a decent season this year, there is still plenty to achieve for the two-time ATP titlist.

Cilic v Schwartzman Predictions & Tips

Marin Cilic navigated his way past Cristian Garin in straight sets in what looked like a difficult match on paper. Statistically the Croat should have no problems in dealing with Schwartzman on grass. There is a reason why he is the champion here and the Argentine is about to face the wrath of a red-hot Cilic.
