Simona Halep v Jennifer Brady Head to Head

This is their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Halep, Sailing High on Confidence

Being the defending champion in this year’s Rogers Cup, Simona Halep will be expected to put up an equally clinical performance as she did last season. Given her recent victory in the Wimbledon, where she defeated Serena Williams in the final, the odds are definitely in her favour.

It has been quite a journey for the Romanian that took her to her first singles title since the Canadian Open last season. She reached the final on three distinct events but ultimately failed to go the distance. This season, Halep featured in the Qatar Open and Madrid Open final, losing respectively to Elise Mertens and Kiki Bertens.

Her win-loss record currently stands at 36-10 and following her run at the SW19, she is back in the top five. Thankfully, Halep hasn’t had any trysts with injuries yet and if she continues to play like this, she may very well become World No. 1 again.

Historically speaking, she has won the Rogers Cup twice in her career while reaching the final this one other time.

Brady with a Solid Start

The 24-year-old Brady got her start in the tournament as a qualifier and made it to the main draw after a lot of hustle. In the opener, she knocked out the veteran doubles player Kristina Mladenovic with 6-2, 6-1, to set up the clash with Halep.

Currently ranked World No. 76, that was Brady’s first win since the WTA Birmingham this season. As for her year so far, it has been quite mediocre with bouts of inconsistency. Her best run came in Nottingham, where she reached the semifinal. Apart from that, she also was a finalist in the 125K Series event in Indian Wells.

Halep v Brady Prediction & Tips

This one is a no-brainer. Given Halep’s recent form and momentum, she should be able to dismantle Brady in straight sets. However, she is not entirely immune to the upset bug and with Ashleigh Barty already out, a small possibility exists that Halep may soon follow the suit. But for Brady to pull this off, she will need to play the best tennis of her career.

Tip: Under 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
