Stern Challenge for Experienced Flipkens
The 110th ranked Flipkens was off to a shaky start in the first round, conceding the first set to China’s lucky loser Xiyu Wang.
But the 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist staged a comeback, defeating the reigning U.S. Open girls’ champion 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
A former World No. 13, Flipkens hasn’t had too much of success in singles this year and if she harbours ambition of equalling or bettering her best showing at Flushing Meadows (3rd round in 2009) then she will have to raise her game by a few notches against the in-form Bianca.
