Sixth seeded Alexander Zverev has twice now been taken to five sets and he will hope he can take inspiration from Roger Federer. Federer was taken to four sets in the first two rounds of the tournament before coming into his own in the third and winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 to enter the round of 16. He will face Aljaz Bedene in the third round.

14th seeded John Isner will face the 22nd seeded Marin Cilic in another third round match, while the 20th seeded Diego Schwartzman will be up against Tennys Sandgren, 13th seeded Gael Monfils takes on Denis Shapovalov and Nick Kyrgios plays Andrey Rublev.
