This will be the first time both the players will be facing each other on tour.

Seasoned Veteran Bautista-Agut Looking to Achieve Career High Ranking

Roberto Bautista-Agut is one of those rare Spanish players whose record on Hard courts is better than on Clay. A remarkable stat about Bautista-Agut is that he has never been outside the top 30 in the world for almost six years now. For someone who had never even reached the last eight of a grand slam before 2019, it is a testimony to his consistency & ability to adapt on various surfaces.

This year he seems to have found an extra gear in his game. He started the year with a remarkable title at Doha where he beat likes of Stan Wawrinka & Novak Djokovic on his route to the final. In the final, he prevailed over Thomas Berdych.

Less then a month later he reached his first career Grand Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open & went one better at Wimbledon by reaching the semis. Here at Zhuhai, he won his quarter-final match against Italian Andreas Seppi. Except for Wimbledon, this was his first victory at this stage of the tournament out of nine times he has reached the last eight this year.

Currently ranked number 10 in the world, he doesn’t have many points to defend from now to the end of the season. He is currently seventh in the 2019 Race to London to qualify for the World Tour Finals. A strong showing here will go a long way in securing his entry at the show-stopping event for this year’s ATP Tour and also help him achieve a new career-high ranking.

De Minaur: Aussie Coming on the Back of a Big Victory

20-year-old Alex De Minaur’s rise in the last two seasons has been spectacular. At the start of 2018 season, he was outside the top 200 in the rankings and had only played once in a Grand Slam, 2017 Australia Open where he had received a wildcard entry.

De Minaur now is ranked 31 in the world, reaching a career-high of 24 earlier this year. An Australia with dual Spanish nationality, Di Minaur had reached achieved his best-ever Grand Slam showing at last month’s US Open when he reached the round of 16. After reaching and losing two finals in 2018, he has won two titles this year as well.

He reached the finals of the Next Gen ATP finals last year where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas and this year he is ranked third in the race for the event. He comes into the match with a hard-fought victory over world number 14 Croat Borna Coric.

His playing style is uncannily similar to his mentor and a great of Australian tennis, Lleyton Hewitt. The ability to minimize his errors, play an extra shot to have a higher chance of winning the point, and a well rounded overall game makes him stand out of the pack at such a young age.

He does tend to lose focus at deciding points in the game which has reflected in the fact that out of 15 matches that he has played this year where the match has gone into the deciding set, he has managed to win only six of them.

Bautista-Agut v De Minaur Predictions & Tips

Both the players rely more on their consistency then flair and go into this match on the back of a solid season behind them and an eye on World tour finals in their respective categories to end the season in style. It’s going to be a close match with both players grinding out for every point.

I will go with a narrow victory for the Spaniard Bautista-Agut.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
