Denis Shapovalov v Cedrik-Marcel Stebe Head to Head

The pair have never met each other on tour. This will be the first clash between the two.

Shapovalov on the Hunt for his Maiden Title

After breaking into the world top 20 rankings earlier this year, the season hasn’t quite panned out the way Shapovalov would have hoped for. He was primed to overtake Milos Raonic to become the top Canadian player on tour. But apart from the semifinal he made at Miami, his season hasn’t lived up to the potential.

In the last month or so, he has been much more consistent with semifinal appearances at Winston Salem and Chengdu. Last week he came up against Novak Djokovic in the second round at the Shanghai Masters.

He has already surpassed his round of 16 performance in Stockholm last year. Shapovalov will be hoping to go all the way to land his first ATP title later this week.

Cedrik-Marcel Looking to Regain his Pre-injury Form

Cedrik-Marcel was once world number 71 and had some famous victories against former world number one Lleyton Hewitt, Nikolay Davydenko, and Fabio Fognini in 2011 & 2012.

A hip injury required him to go under the knife in 2013, and he couldn’t recover fully from the injury for almost two years. He again rose to world number 76 in 2017 on the back of two solid season. Once again back to back wrist operations meant he only played in two events last year. His rankings dropped outside the top 1000 in 2018. Currently ranked 213 in the world, the German reached the main draw at the Wimbledon and the US Open this year. He also reached finals at the Gstaad earlier this season.

Cedrik-Marcel has given a good account of himself this week by winning four matches, both in the qualifiers and in the main draw. He is set to break into the top 200 once again regardless of what happens in the quarter-final.

Denis Shapovalov v Cedrik-Marcel Stebe Predictions & Tips

Although Cedrik-Marcel has had a good outing in Stockholm this week, it is difficult to look past Shapovalov in this match. The Canadian’s form has picked up in the second half of the season. A strong return of serve and agility on the court should ensure a safe passage for him in the last four.
