Rafael Nadal v Diego Goffin Head to Head

This will be the seventh meeting between the pair on the tour. Nadal leads the tally at 5-1. The only occasion on which Goffin prevailed was in the 2017 ATP Finals.

Nadal Fit & Firing Ahead of the Australian Open

One of the major concern for Nadal going into the new season was his fitness. He won two Grand Slams last year but had to pull out from multiple events throughout the season due to hip, abdominal and knee injuries. But so far in the preseason he has looked fit and in form.

After winning both the matches at the Abu Dhabi Exhibition event, he has been near perfect at the ATP cup. He has won all of his three matches in straight sets to get Spain into the last eight.

Playing for Spain has always meant a lot to the world number one. He has won five Davis Cups as well as singles Olympic gold medal at 2008 Beijing Olympics and doubles Olympics gold at 2016 Rio De Janeiro. The Spaniard would surely like to add an ATP Cup to his collection.

He is chasing his 20th Grand Slam this year and would like to get that at the Australian Open, an event which he has only won once but failed at the final hurdle four times.

Goffin Looking to Bounce Back after Disappointing End to 2019

Goffin reached three semi-finals and two finals in 2019. Even though he could not add another title to his career tally of four, he had a very strong chance of qualifying for the ATP Finals till the very end. But he suffered multiple early rounds exits and fell away from the race.

Despite that, the overall 2019 was a very solid season for the Belgian. He has won two out of the three matches and went down to Daniel Evans of Team Great Britain in the tournament so far. Considered to be an all-surface player, Goffin is a reliable operator without any significant flaws in his game.

This year he would be hoping to end his two-year title drought. He last won a title at the Tokyo Open in 2017.

Rafael Nadal v Diego Goffin Predictions & Tips

Nadal has admitted that despite good results, he feels that he needs to increase the level of his performances before the Australian Open. This match may be an ideal opportunity for him. Goffin has done well to get his team to this stage but doesn’t quite have the game to trouble the Spaniard. Nadal will start the match as a heavy favourite.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 3/10 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
