Novak Djokovic v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head

This is the 14th meeting between both players, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 11-2. The German’s first win was on the clay courts of Roland Garros in 2009, and the second ten years later on the hard courts of Indian Wells last year.

Four-time Dubai champion and 17-time major title winner, Novak Djokovic returned to Dubai for the first time since 2016, and made quick work of his opponent from Tunisia, Malek Jaziri.

Djokovic dropped only three games and won the match in about 47 minutes.

After winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2019, the latter part of the year was not the most promising for the Serb.

Recurring shoulder and elbow issues saw him pull out in the fourth round of the US Open, after being down two sets to love against Stan Wawrinka. This was followed by an exit in the quarter finals at the Beijing Masters, and Djokovic did not go past the group stages of the ATP Tour Finals, in turn losing the race for the year end world number one ranking to Rafa Nadal.

2020 has got off to a perfect start for Djokovic, who led Team Serbia to victory in the inaugural ATP Cup Down Under, following it with a record extending eighth Australian Open title defeating Dominic Thiem in a classic five-setter to win the final.

Djokovic will be hoping for a strong run here in Dubai, and with defending champion Roger Federer pulling out with knee surgery, the Serb will be a strong favorite for a title win this week.

Can Kohlschreiber Beat The World Number One Again?

Germany’s Phil Kohlscreiber has been on the tour for about 15 years, and has been a force to reckon with for a considerable amount of time.

A member of the final 16 at the majors more than ten times in his career, the gritty Kohlschreiber was ranked as high as number 16 in the world in the Summer of 2012.

However, the German’s game has been on the decline for the last two seasons or so.

Kohlschreiber is currently ranked number 80 in the world and at 36 years of age, is well aware that his chances of impressive match wins are going to be few and far to come by.

2020 has not seen much of the German, as he pulled out with injury issues ahead of his third round encounter againt Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open, and lost in the round of 32 to Dan Evans at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam.

Novak Djokovic v Philipp Kohlschreiber Predictions & Tips

Although Kohlschrieber won against Djokovic as recently as last year, the Serb has won three times since against the German and has looked in sublime form this year. On the other hand, Kohlschrieber has not been in the best of form or fitness in recent times.

The Serbian is currently looking unstoppable and expect him to win in two relatively straightforward sets.
