Iga Swiatek v Svetlana Kuznetsova Head to Head

This will be the first time Swiatek, who is 18, will be playing Kuznetsova, a player nearly twice her age.

Swiatek Has Lost Just One Match This Season

Admittedly, Swiatek has played just eight matches but she has lost just one match, and that came in the Australian Open fourth round against Anett Kontaveit. Since that defeat, Swiatek got the better of all her three opponents in the Fed Cup and followed it up with a shock victory over Donna Vekic in the first round here.

She was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Vekic, making it her second win over the Croat this very year, having previously defeated her at the Australian Open as well.

Swiatek’s first serve percentage in the match wasn’t the best at 56% but it was still better than her opponent’s, but where she really scored over Vekic in her previous match was the number of opportunities she created for herself to break the Croat. In a match that had Vekic serving in 11 games, Swiatek helped herself to 14 break-points and converted six of them.

While she would like to improve on that number of break-points converted, she will take heart from how she herself reacted in such situations; stalling Vekic five of the nine times her opponent for a break-point.

Kuznetsova Notches up Easy Opening Win

46th-ranked Kuznetsova started off the season with a first round defeat at the Hobart International, before shocking 2019 French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova in the first round at the Australian Open. She couldn’t continue with her momentum though and fell away in the second.

Something similar repeated in Dubai last week where the former world number two managed to pull off a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jennifer Brady but Belinda Bencic had her measure in the second.

A 6-2, 6-2 win over the 172nd-ranked Cagla Buyukakcay has kickstarted her campaign here on the right note but this one could be a different proposition against a much, younger, fitter opponent who has shown a lot of sparkle in recent times.

Iga Swiatek v Svetlana Kuznetsova Predictions & Tips

Swiatek is 4/7 to win this one, but Kuznetsova isn’t one to go down without a fight with all that experience of hers coming in handy in situations like this where she would find it difficult to compete against much younger legs. Expect a tight match.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
