Daria Kasatkina v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
This will be the fourth meeting between Kasatkina and Paolini with the Russian leading 2-1. Kasatkina had won their first encounter on clay way back in 2014 in an ITF tournament before Paolini made it 1-1 in Prague in 2018. Last year the two met again in the first round of the French Open where Kasatkina was a straight-set winner.
Former World No. 10 Kasatkina Looking for Momentum
Her fine performances in 2018 which included a WTA title win in Moscow had propelled Kasatkina into the top 10 of the WTA Rankings but since then the fall has been rather dramatic. The Russian won only 13 of her 34 matches in 2019 and other than a strong showing in Lyon earlier this year, she has struggled to get going.
Her start to the 2020 season saw her crash out of the Auckland Open in the second round after defeating Carla Suarez-Navarro, and that was followed by first round losses in Adelaide, Australian Open and the St. Petersburg Open.
Kasatkina failed to qualify for Dubai International and scraped through the qualifiers in Doha before losing to Garbine Muguruza in the opener there. It was only at the Lyon Open she finally managed to stitch together a few wins but that was the last time she played before play was suspended before the pandemic.

Ranked 95th in the world and with a career-best of 93rd, Italy’s Paolini is more known on the lower-tiered tournament circuit. She has won nine of those titles.
At the highest level though, Paolini’s performances haven’t been the best and that can be seen from her record even earlier this year. She participated in five tournaments before the break and made it to the first round of just one – the Australian Open.
Paolini lost that opener to go with four other defeats in the qualifying events of those tournaments.
She comes into this tournament on the back of a wildcard to go with an exhibition tournament win in June at the Campionati Italiani Assoluti. Paolini won four matches in a row there to lift the trophy.
