Catherine Bellis v Jessica Pegula Head to Head
These two players have featured in one match before this and Pegula had raced off to an easy, straight-set win over Bellis in that match at the Auckland Open earlier this year.

We have spoken about Bellis’ fall in rankings before and that has to do with her inability to participate in too much tennis in 2019. In fact she played in only one competition that season.
This year, the former world number 35 has gotten off to a reasonably strong start. A third round at the Australian Open has been a highlight, while there was a second round appearance at Hobart as well, but other than that Bellis hasn’t played too much tennis.
In the first round here at the Lexington Open, Bellis was drawn to face Francesca di Lorenzo and came through without any trouble. She won 6-1, 6-2 to make it to the second round.
Things might be as easy in the second round though when she faces Pegula.

Pegula Coming off a 10-2 Record in World TeamTennis
The American world number 81 played in 12 matches during the month-long World TeamTennis competition and won on 10 occasions. However, even before that, Pegula looked to have done reasonably well at the start of the season.
Featuring at the Auckland Open to kick-start the season, Pegula defeated Bellis in the first round and followed it up with wins over Tamara Zidansek, Alize Cornet and Caroline Wozniacki to make it to the final of the tournament. There she lost to Serena Williams (who, incidentally is playing Venus today).
A first round loss at the Australian Open might have been startling after that kind of a start but she followed it up a quarterfinal in Newport before the tennis season went on a break.
Her return has been strong, especially with all the tennis she played at the World TeamTennis and while she was stretched in her opener here by Vera Zvonareva, she came through the blip in the second set to win it in three.

According to the bookmakers this is a tough one to call with Pegula only just favourite. She is 4/5 to win this as compared to the 10/11 for a Bellis win. We will have to go with Pegula for her experience.
