Anett Kontaveit v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head

Kontaveit leads Kasatkina 1-0 on head-to-head, with their only meeting happening in 2017 in the second round of the Wimbledon championships.

Kontaveit Re-enters World’s Top 20

Anett Kontaveit returns to North America with a wave of emotions. Indeed, the US Open last year proved to be her last official tournament in which she appeared before she brought her season to a premature end. A horrible energy-sapping illness forced her to withdraw from her scheduled third round match in New York and required surgery to treat what was revealed to be an acute viral illness.

Still, she holds plenty of fond memories from a great week earlier during the 2019 season. It was in Miami where she made the semifinals – her furthest progress at a Premier Mandatory event. That run propelled her to a career-high ranking of World No.14. But a lack of consistency and the aforementioned illness, ensured she dropped out of the top-30 altogether.

Kontaveit has somehow managed to rediscover that good form in 2020 and she has redlined her game. At the Australian Open this year, she became the first Estonian to reach the last eight in Melbourne. On her return to tennis in Palermo earlier this month, she finished runner-up and re-entered the world’s top-20.

Injury-hit Kasatkina Earns Main Draw Spot

Daria Kasatkina’s teenage years promised to furnish a new superstar on the main tour. However, the weight of expectations seems to have overwhelmed the former French Open junior champion. Kasatkina did enjoy a meteoric rise in her stunning 2018 season in which she made the finals of Indian Wells and a maiden quarterfinal at Roland Garros.

She was a top-10 player less than two seasons ago before she tumbled down the rankings in terrible fashion. There has been very little reason to suggest the Russian will find her magic now that the wheels have come off. She compiled a modest 13-21 record last year, winning back-to-back matches in just two events.

The 23-year-old didn’t start 2020 on a bright note either. She is 10-9 for the season, and was beaten in the second round of qualifying by Christina McHale on Friday –  a result which posed the question on whether she has fully recovered from a shoulder injury.

She has earned a spot in the main draw as a lucky loser.

Kontaveit v Kasatkina Prediction & Tip

On current form, Kontaveit is a far superior athlete and is playing with immense confidence. It would take something spectacular for Kasatkina to win here, which quite frankly is unlikely to happen.

Tip: Kontaveit to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
