Donna Vekic v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between Vekic and Kudermetova and the Croat has won both. Interestingly, both these matches came on indoor hard courts, the same surface they are playing on at the moment, and at St. Petersburg. The first match came on the ITF circuit, while the second at the St. Petersburg Open of 2019.

Vekic’s Form Continues to Slip Away

A quarterfinal at the Adelaide International and a third round appearance at the Australian Open in the month of January for Donna Vekic meant she looked like she had started off the season on a reasonably good note and it was only a matter of trying to push on from there.

That push, however, hasn’t yet come.

Since that exit at the Australian Open, which came at the hands of Iga Swiatek, Vekic has won back to back matches in only one tournament – the US Open in August – and even in that she went out to a player just returning to tennis after a long hiatus. She lost 6-4, 6-1 despite being 1/2 favourite to clinch it.

That defeat was followed by back to back losses to Amanda Anisimova and Irina Bara on the clay courts of Rome and Paris, which leads her to this competition in Ostrava. And while she isn’t quite playing a very high-ranked opponent, her slipping form will continue to raise concerns.

Can Vekic turn things around in what might be one of her last tournaments of the season?

Kudermetova Showing Similar Issues

While Kudermetova hasn’t seen the inside of the top 30 rankings on the tour so far, she looked like she was headed there when she got to her career best ranking of 38th in the world. Unfortunately for her, much like Vekic, this year hasn’t provided any great results to work with.

Things looked to be headed upward for the Russian at the beginning of the year though when she won a couple of rounds at the Hobart International. An injury to Garbine Muguruza put her into the semifinal there but she went down to Shuai Zhang at that stage.

From there on, however, it has been a constant battle to remain in touch with her opponents but it’s one that’s often been a losing one.

Only at the Cincinnati Open did Kudermetova finally manage to carve out a couple of victories again before losing to Elise Mertens but that was followed by three defeats from four matches.

Kudermetova has now made it to the main draw here with a couple of qualifying round victories, but the true test comes now.

Donna Vekic v Veronika Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

This is a tough call even for bookmakers who have pegged both players at 5/6 to win it. Expecting a long-drawn battle in this one.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
