Frances Tiafoe v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

This will be the second competitive meeting between the two players. The pair met each other just a couple of weeks ago and the Frenchman won that encounter in straight sets.

Tiafoe Struggling for Consistency

Six years after turning pro at the age of just 16, the American still remains an enigma that not many have been able to solve. On his day he is one of the best going around but despite having played more than 400 career matches, “his days” are coming too few and far in between.

At the age of just 18, Tiafoe was winning Challenger titles and broke into the top 100 rankings. Just before turning 20, he won his first-ever ATP title at the Delray Beach and broke into the top 50. And at the start of last year, he reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open. Many were wondering if he could be the next first time Grand Slam winner.

But for the American, things have gone downhill since then. From as high as 29 in the rankings, he has dropped to 63 in the world now.

Over the last two seasons, Tiafoe has lost more matches than he has won. And this season, he has crashed out in the opening round of a tournament eight times and in the second round on four occasions. And many of those tournaments were at the Challenger level too.

He did reach the fourth round at the US Open & won the Parma Challenger last month but that proved to be a false dawn. He crashed out in the first round at Sardinia and then in the second round at Antwerp last season. And considering his below par, 29-31 win-loss record on indoor hard courts, he will be up against it to turn his form around before the season ends.

Moutet has Lost Four Out of Previous Five Matches

After a bright start to the season, the French youngster’s season has fizzled outpost the resumption after the covid break. Moutet started the season impressively by reaching finals at Doha after starting from the qualifying stages.

He beat five higher-ranked opponents along the way, which included a semi-final win over Stan Wawrinka as well. Continuing his good form, he reached the last eight at the Cordoba Open just before the season was suspended.

During the break, Moutet played almost 15 matches in exhibitions events in order to maintain his fitness, most of them at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.

And after the season resumed, the hard work seemed to have paid off when he reached the third round at the US Open. He even reached his career-high ranking of 69 on the back of it. And going into the clay-court season, his favourite surface, expectations were high from him to end the season strongly.

But his clay-court run was disappointing, to say the least. He failed to reach the main draw at Rome before crashing out in the first round at his home Grand Slam, the Roland Garros. Since then he reached the second round at Sardinia before another first-round exit at Antwerp last week.

Frances Tiafoe v Corentin Moutet Prediction and Tip

This is an interesting matchup between two players struggling for consistency at the moment. Tiafoe would be eager to avenge the loss he suffered to Moutet a couple of weeks ago. He is going to be the slight favourite going into the match which is likely to be a close contest.

Tip: More than 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
