Jordan Thompson v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Norrie leads their head-to-head series by three matches to one. That sequence began at the Birmingham Challenger event in 2017, and continued through to the US Open the following year.

In 2019 Thompson won at the Miami Masters, but then Norrie got his revenge in Atlanta.

Thompson Hasn’t Won a Set in Last Three Tournaments

Since reaching the third-round in Kitzbuhel, Thompson has been knocked-out in the first-round in his last three events without winning a set.

That run began ion Paris, where he was beaten in the French Open by Radu Albot of Moldova, and then continued into the first Cologne Open where he was defeated by the world 91, Dennis Novak of Austria.

In the second iteration of Cologne last week, he was drawn against the world number 58, Gilles Simon of France. The pair swapped service breaks, but then Thompson dropped his once more to give the Frenchman the set.

The second set went with serve, until Thompson cracked once more and dropped his serve again. Simon needed no second invitation and served out for the match.

Norrie Pushed Raonic in Antwerp

Despite reaching the third-round of the US Open, his best ever run at a Grand Slam event, Norrie had a disappointing spell on clay, where he joined the early British exodus from the French open, beaten by the little-known Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan Riveros in the first-round.

However, he did better at the St. Petersburg, back on hard courts again, beating both Taylor Fritz and Miomir Kecmanovic, both higher ranked than him, before eventually losing to local favourite Andrey Rublev.

Last week in Antwerp, at the European Open, he beat the Finnish qualifier Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets, before he was beaten in straight sets himself by Milos Raonic.

That though does not tell the full story of the match against the world number 19, which saw only one break of serve in the 11th game of the first set, which Raonic claimed.

The second set went with serve and eventually ended in a tie-break. Unfortunately, Norrie then cracked under the pressure, and dropped his service twice, he clawed one of those points back, but it was not enough, and Raonic sealed victory with his second match-point.

Thompson v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Although Thompson is currently the higher ranked of the pair, Norrie has the superior head-to-head record, and is in the better recent form. He should progress to the second-round.

Tip: Norrie to win: 5/7 (bet365)
