The first-round action of the 2020 Linz Open will feature a battle between two qualifiers, Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic, currently ranked 121 in the world and Jana Fett of Croatia ranked 236. The match is expected to be played on Tuesday, November 10 and is expected to begin at around 5 pm local time (5 pm BST or 12 noon Eastern Time). Tereza Martincova v Jana Fett Head to Head

The pair have met four times below in lower ranked tournaments, and Fett leads their head-to-head series by three matches to one.  She won their first meeting in 2015 in Istanbul and their two matches in 2017 in Cagnes-sur-Mer and Vancouver. However, Martincova won their last meeting in Moscow last year.

.The winner of four ITF titles, Martincova was ranked as high as 114 in the world in 2017, and is playing close to that level again, having found some form in 2020, and qualifying for the main draw of a Premier 5 tournament for the first time in Qatar.

She missed out on qualification for the French Open, but back on home soil, she did qualfy in Ostrava only to lose to compatriot Barbora Krejcikova first time out.

Martincova had her struggles to get through qualifying here. First she needed three sets to beat Jodie Anne Burrage of Great Britain, and again was pushed all the way by Sabine Lisicki of Germany in her next match, a woman ranked 561 places below her in the world rankings presently.

Fett Searching for Form From Three Years Ago

Fett was ranked as high as 97 in the world three years ago, but her form since then has slipped, and she is trying to rediscover it. Since the resumption of the sport she has never been further than the second round of any tournament, where she has qualified in the first stage. She did not make the main draw of the French Open, for example.

Her last tournament prior to this was the ITF event in Istanbul where he got to the second-round before losing to the British player Francesca Jones.

However, she made it through two rounds of qualifying in Linz, first seeing of the challenge of Mayo Hibi of Japan in straight sets,  The earned her a meeting with the world 117 Irena Maria Bara of Romania, and she was able to beat her, taking the first set, dropping the second, but then breaking her opponent’s serve three times in the decisive third set.

Although Fett has the better head-to-head record, Martincova won the most recent match between the two and she is the higher ranked player. She will start the favourite to win.
