Veronika Kudermetova v Barbara Haas Head to Head

There has been one previous outing between these two players which came in the qualifying round of the Brisbane International earlier this year. Kudermetova had won that 7-5, 6-3.

Kudermetova Coming off a Solid Ostrava Campaign

While consistency might not yet be her middle name, Kudermetova has done enough this season to put her in the reckoning for one of the talented players to watch out in the years to come. And she enters this tournament, the last WTA competition of the year, having made it to the quarterfinal of the Ostrava Open as a qualifier.

What made that campaign special was she won a couple of qualifiers before stunning Donna Vekic in the first round and then overpowering Karolina Pliskova after being a set down.

She then grabbed the first set of her quarterfinal against the much-fancied and US Open semifinalist Jennifer Brady, before falling in the next two sets to bow out of the competition.

The Russian had earlier made it to the semifinal of the Hobart International this season, and reached the third round of the Cincinnati Open as well, helping her maintain her top-50 ranking.

Haas Hasn’t Won a Round in Linz

This will be the sixth main draw appearance for Haas in this tournament and each time the world number 148 has lost her first round match.

The Austrian has 16 titles to her name at the ITF level which includes three last year but in 2020, has barely played any tennis. Haas tried to make the switch over to feature at the WTA level on a more consistent basis but has played just 16 matches this season, which includes an appearance at the Indian Wells Challenger and a string of qualifiers.

In more recent times, Haas made the main draw of the US Open and French Open – which saw her win her qualifiers at the latter – but that main draw win continued to elude her. Her best chance, incidentally, came at Roland-Garros when she went into her opener against Hsieh Su-wei as a favourite but went out in straight sets.

Against Kudermetova, things might not get any easier.

Kudermetova v Haas Prediction And Tip

Kudermetova is 1/6 to win this and 1/2 to do that in straight sets. At various times this season, Haas has shown the propensity to put up a fight, which is why the games market looks tempting.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
