Even as Alexandrova was coming into this tournament on the back of a first round exit at the Ostrava Open, she was a huge favourite in her opener against Katerina Siniakova. And she played like one to beat her opponent in straight sets.
The Russian was quick off the blocks by breaking her opponent to love in the very first game of the match and while she faced her own set of break-points, she came through each time to seal the set in the ninth game. It came with Alexandrova breaking her opponent as she looked to serve to stay in the set.
Alexandrova then fell a break behind in the second set as soon as she had gone a break ahead in the first but clawed back well. She first saved a break-point on her own serve in the third game, another in the seventh and then broke Siniakova to 15 to level things off at 4-4.
And after serving to love, Alexandrova then broke her opponent to win her second round spot. A second round opponent ranked nearly 100th in the world shouldn’t pose too much threat now, should it?

Gracheva Breaks Losing Streak
The 20-year-old Gracheva played like the favourite she was in her first round match, defeating Katerina Zavatska in straight sets in her opening round encounter. She won 6-4, 7-5 to progress to the second round.
After a cagey first set, Gracheva broke Zavatska just as she was serving to remain in the set to take the lead. And while she fell a break behind in the second, she forced Zavatska to drop serve again at 4-5 before wrapping it up 7-5.
Earlier, she finished the US Open with a third round appearance but was on a three-match losing streak before this tournament.
Losses in an ITF competition in France, opening round at Roland-Garros and a three-set loss to Irina-Camelia Begu in the Ostrava Open qualifiers meant Gracheva was going into her third indoors match of the season having not done so well in recent times.
With a win here, she would feel her confidence return but will that be enough against the 33rd-ranked Russian?
