Nadia Podoroska v Camila Giorgi Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the qualifying rounds of the Moscow Open 2016 and Podoroska had won that in three sets, shrugging off a first set bagel in the process.

Podoroska Punishes Begu in Opener

Playing in her first match since her sizzling display at the French Open, Podoroska showed she is as adept on indoor hard courts as she was on clay as she registered a straight set win over Irina-Camelia Begu.

The Argentine won 6-4, 6-4 despite having come into the match with odds of 1/1 associated with her victory.

In a match which saw six breaks of serve, Podoroska began with an early one to go 3-1 up. Begu retaliated with one of her own in the sixth game but the world number 68 then got herself three break-points and converted on the third to wrap up the set.

The script reversed in the second set when it was Begu who got the early break of serve, and Podoroska had to fight back to bring the set to level terms. In the ninth game, Podoroska then got herself another couple of break-points and soon served out the match to seal her second round place.

This was Podoroska’s first ever main draw match indoors on the WTA circuit, and just the fourth overall – she had last played indoors in 2016. For her to not have played since the French Open either and to come up with a performance like this could be a warning sign for her opponents in this tournament.

Giorgi Needs Three against Sorribes Tormo

Much like Podoroska, Italy’s Giorgi wasn’t quite the favourite going into her opening round match against Sara Sorribes Tormo but managed to squeak past her Spanish opponent.

Having lost her last three matches on the tournament, Giorgi looked to have benefitted from the break since the French Open. Playing a no-holds barred tennis, Giorgi quickly took a 2-0 lead in the opening set and while she let slip that early advantage, the Italian broke her opponent once more in the sixth game and pocketed the set.

And when she went 3-0 up in the second set with two breaks of serve, it seemed like the writing was on the wall for her opponent. Except, Sorribes Tormo wasn’t done yet.

She rallied to get one break back, dropped another serve, before breaking Giorgi twice more to level the set at 4-4. And with set then seeming like it was heading into a tie-breaker, Giorgi failed to hold her serve at 5-6 to lose the set.

Things can go horribly wrong for a player who is a set and two breaks up and can’t close out but Giorgi left the second set behind her, broke Sorribes Tormo twice again and this time around managed to shut her opponent.

Podoroska v Giorgi Prediction And Tip

This looks like a tough one to call even for the bookmakers with Podoroska starting out at 10/11 and Giorgi at 4/5. Podoroska’s confidence might give her an edge in this one.

Tip: Podoroska to win: 10/11 (bet365)
