Sam Querrey v Gianluca Majer Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 33-year old American, and the Italian, who is seven years younger.

Querrey Comfortably Breezes Past Compatriot

Querrey had a relatively comfortable first-round victory over his compatriot Mackenzie McDonald, despite signs of ring rustiness in the firsts et.

He had to save two break points against him in his opening service game, before immediately breaking the McDonald serve.  However, three games later he dropped his own serve for the only time in the match, as McDonald levelled the score.

Querrey though forced another break in the eighth game, and was able to serve out the set from there.

Querrey then took charge of proceedings in the second set, giving McDonald few opportunities on his own serve, and probing for chances of his own on the return.

There was just the one break though, in the third game, and Querrey then closed out a match that lasted just an hour and 11 minutes.

Majer Registers Battling Victory

Majer was given a stiff test in the first round by the American wildcard, Ryan Harrison, a man ranked 481 in the world. It was Majer, having previously saved two break points, who dropped his serve first, in the sixth game, and the American went on to serve out the set.

However, the Italian broke the Harrison serve early in the second set, saved two break points in the next game, and then forced another break to level the match.

He broke again early in the third set but mad hard work of wrapping-up the victory. Serving for the match, he had to save five break points before finally concluding matters with his second match point.

Querrey v Majer Prediction and Tip

Querrey will begin this match as the overwhelming favourite against an opponent who made very heavy weather of his first round match, and whose game is less suited to the surface than the big-serving American.

Tip: Querrey to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
