In Good ATP Cup Form Zverev Hoping To Be Healthy

Alexander Zverev has been in the news from very early on in his career, for both positive and negative matters. ATP Masters 1000 titles, ATP Tour Finals titles, Grand Slam finals, splits with two legendary player turned coaches and more off -court matters. In the midst of it all, he has been able to recover from any dips in his performance and come back stronger each time.

The 2020 Australian Open semi-finalist and US Open finalist will be looking to win his maiden grand slam title this season, and if the ATP Cup is anything to go by, he looks in good touch surely.

All three matches that he played, against Denis Shapovalov, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev went to close deciding sets. While he prevailed against Shapovalov and narrowly missed out against Djokovic, he looked well on his way to a straight sets win against Medvedev.

Up a set and a break, the German felt a pull in his lower back and was not quite the same player thereafter. Nevertheless, he hung in till 5-5 in the third and finally lost the set 5-7. With two days till his opener at the Melbourne Park major, Zverev will be hoping his back recovers as he hopes to ease into the year’s first grand slam with hopefully a few clinical early rounds.

Giron Looking For A Breakthrough

Twenty-seven year old American Marcos Giron has been on the tour for a few years now, but despite his success at the NCAA level and on the Challenger Tour, is yet to convert it to the ATP main draw. He reached a career high ranking just outside the top 70 in the world late last year and will be hoping to capitalize on it this season.

Giron did well to register his first ever win against a top ten player, defeating Matteo Berrettini at the Paris Masters last November. He also looked to be in decent touch this week at the ATP 250 in Melbourne defeating French veteran Adrian Mannarino, and falling short against the in-form British number one Dan Evans.

The American is looking for the breakthrough on the big stage and knows that an opponent like Zverev is as difficult as an opener can be, but with the German’s fitness a little suspect right now, Giron will know that this is a chance as good as any.

Zverev v Giron Prediction and Tip

Zverev has looked in very good form at the ATP Cup and hopefully recovers from the niggle from his match against Medvedev. A healthy Zverev will have too many tricks for Giron; expect a straight sets win for the German.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 4/11 (bet365)
