Harris Coming off Best Grand Slam Showing

South Africa’s top-ranked player Lloyd Harris enters the Singapore Tennis Open with a 2-2 record this season, but he will be satisfied with his performance at the first major of the year, as the 23-year-old won two consecutive matches at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

The 6’5” right-hander, who achieved a career-high ranking of 72 last year, began his Australian Open challenge with a four-set come-from-behind win over Denmark’s Mikael Tropegard.

In the next round, Australia’s Alexei Popyrin gave Harris a tough fight, but the South African came out unscathed in a five-set thriller. His run, however, ended in the third round, as he went down to American Mackenzie McDonald.

A winner of three Challenger and 13 ITF singles titles, Harris came close to his first ATP title in Adelaide last year, but fell to Andrey Rublev in the final. In a year that saw him finish 12-12, he also reached the last eight in Cologne and Antwerp.

In 2019, Harris, who prefers playing on the hard courts, had reached his first Tour-level semifinal in Chengdu.

Andreev, A Rank Outsider

Facing Harris in the first round will be Bulgarian teenager Adrian Andreev.

The 19-year-old, given a wild card for the Singapore event, won his first Tour-level match in Antalya earlier this year.

Having qualified for the main draw of the event in Turkey, Andreev defeated lower-ranked local player Marsel Ilhan in straight sets before falling to eventual champion Alex de Minaur in the next round to take his overall Tour record to 1-4.

Ranked 419th in the world, Andreev has won two ITF titles and has two runner-up finishes as well.

Harris v Andreev Prediction and Tip

Harris is the seeded player, a man in some sort of a form and can be expected to win this one with ease.

Tip: Harris to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
