Cori Gauff v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 16-year-old American and the 25-year-old Italian.

Gauff Rallies to Beat Juvan

America’s Cori Gauff bounced back from a set down to beat Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan in the second qualifying round on Monday to enter the main draw of the Adelaide International.

The right-handed American teenager, who ousted Britain’s Francesca Jones in the first round of qualification on Sunday, dropped the first set but fought back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Gauff, who didn’t get a single break point opportunity in the first set, converted five of nine break points in the match and saved six of 10 to take the contest in two hours and 10 minutes.

On Sunday, the world No. 52 had needed just 64 minutes to dispatch the Briton 6-1, 6-4.

The 2019 Linz Open champion enters the tournament with a 3-3 record in 2021, having failed to win two matches in a row in any of the three tournaments she has featured in this year.

Starting in Abu Dhabi, Gauff knocked out Norway’s Ulrikke Elkeri in the first round before falling to Maria Sakkari. At the Gippsland Trophy, she beat Jil Teichmann in the first match but was beaten by Britain’s Katie Boulter in the next. Both of those matches in the tune-up to the first major of the year were close three-set affairs.

At the Australian Open, Gauff defeated Techmann again, this time without much fuss, but couldn’t find a way past Elina Svitolina in the second round.

The American, who caught the eye at Wimbledon two years ago, when she reached the fourth round of the tournament, has made constant progress over the last two years, which included a run to the last 16 at the Australian Open in 2020, and will be aiming to add to her title in Linz.

Paolini Adavances with Back-To-Back Come-from-Behind Wins

World No. 99 Jasmine Paolini is getting into a habit of winning after dropping the first set.

A day after rallying against American Asia Muhammad, the 25-year-old Italian came back from a set down against Australia’s Astra Sharma to advance to the main draw of the Adelaide International.

Converting seven of 12 break points and saving three of seven, Paolini defeated Sharma 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 33 minutes.

Monday’s win, albeit in three, was relatively easier than the win against Muhammad, who took the Italian to a third-set tiebreak before losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (3-7) in two hours and 18 minutes.

The Italian right-hander is 2-3 this year, with both her wins coming at the Gippsland Trophy, where she ousted Rebeca Marino and Qiang Wang in the first two rounds, before falling to Karolina Muchova in the Round of 16. Interestingly, Paolini had lost the first set to Wang as well, but fought her way back to advance.

At the Australian Open, Paolini could win just two games as she was sent packing by Karolina Pliskova in the opening round. She also made a first round exit at the season opener in Abu Dhabi.

A winner of eight ITF titles, Paolini has been more successful on clay than any other surface.

Gauff v Paolini Prediction and Tip

Both players have been impressive in the qualifiers. But Gauff is more experienced at this level and is expected to advance to the next round.

Tip: Gauff to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
