Elina Svitolina v Misaki Doi Head to Head

They are 1-1 head to head.

Doi defeated Svitolina in straight sets in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships in 2014. The Ukrainian got her revenge next year in the same tournament, fighting back from a set down to win the Round of 128.

Svitolina Chasing First Doha Title

World No. 5 Elina Svitolina will begin her Qatar Open campaign in the Round of 16 on Wednesday after the No. 1 seed received a first-round bye.

A 15-time winner on the tour, Svitolina comes into the tournament with an 8-3 record this year.

Beginning the season in Abu Dhabi, the Ukrainian picked up routine wins against America’s Jessica Pegula and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva in the first two rounds. She was tested by Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Round of 16, but managed to edge past the Russian in a nail-biting three-set affair. She eventually fell to another Russian Veronika Kudermetova in an equally intriguing three-set quarterfinal.

At the Gippsland Trophy, the former No. 3 once again began well, defeating Germany’s Andrea Petkovic and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the first two rounds before being stopped by Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals.

Svitolina’s next assignment was the Australian Open, where she reached the Round of 16 without dropping a set.

The 2018 WTA Finals winner looked in great touch as she ousted Marie Bouzkova, Cori Gauff and Yulia Putintseva in the first three rounds of the first slam of the year. However, her dreams of a third Australian Open quarterfinal ended with a defeat in the hands of Pegula.

The 26-year-old right-hander, who won titles in Monterrey and Strasbourg last year, is still searching for her first final in Qatar. She came close in 2019, reaching the final four before falling to Simona Halep in a tight three-setter.

‘Lucky Loser’ Doi Sends Zheng Packing

Facing Svitolina in the Round of 16 will be Japan’s Misaki Doi, who knocked out China’s Saisai Zheng in the first round on Tuesday.

Ranked 83rd in the world, the Japanese left-hander broke the Chinese four times in the match to win the contest 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 27 minutes.

Doi, who entered the main draw of Adelaide International last week as a lucky loser, followed a similar path to the main draw in Doha.

She had no trouble in winning her first two qualifiers at the Qatar Open, but lost to Jessica Pegula in the final qualification round, before getting an entry as lucky loser.

A former top 30 player, the 29-year-old is a three-time WTA finalist, winning her only title in Luxembourg in 2015.

Svitolina v Doi Prediction and Tip

While Doi can be tricky, expect the Ukrainian to dominate the contest and pick up a straight sets win to advance to the last eight.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
