Borna Coric v Márton Fucsovics Head to Head

Over the 2019-20 period, these players have faced off three times and Coric has won every single time. The first two, at the Australian Open and St. Petersburg Open in 2019, went into the third set, while Coric needed just two sets to get past Fucsovics at the 2020 Paris Masters.

Coric Fights Past Nishikori

In the end, it turned out to be a straight-set win for Coric but Kei Nishikori wasn’t one to give up too easily, pushing him into back to back tie-breakers. The match lasted a little over two hours and saw a couple of breaks of serve for both players before it was pushed into a tie-breaker.

The difference between the two players was minor but Coric came through easily in the first and then overcame a 4-2 deficit in the second to clinch a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) win.

This win comes on the back of two reasonably easy victories in straight sets against Botic Van De Zandschulp and Dusan Lajovic in the first two rounds of the competition. It also follows a mediocre start to the season which saw him get knocked out in the quarterfinal of the Murray River Open and the second round at the Australian Open.

While a win against Nick Kyrgios in the first of those two tournaments, an arch-rival on and off the court, would have gotten his confidence soaring it is yet to deliver him the kind f results he would want this season.

Can he now move forward to the final?

Fucsovics Building on a Decent Start

Having begun the season ranked 54th in the world, Fucsovics had dropped off a tad coming into this tournament but a semifinal appearance here will help him break into the top 50 of the world. It comes on the back of Fucsovics having started out as a qualifier by winning a couple of matches and then going on to edge past three of his opponents.

Interestingly, despite being a qualifier, Fucsovics went into each of his first three rounds of the tournament as a favourite. Against the hard-serving Reilly Opelka, he needed three tie-breakers to get going, but things went easier after that.

In the second round, he was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before routing American youngster Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal of the competition in straight sets.

In Coric, he will face his toughest test of the tournament but given the form he has been, wouldn’t be a surprise if he can test his opponent out here.

Coric v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Coric is a favourite but only just ahead at 4/6, which also makes me go with him for this one – very tempting odds those.

Tip: Coric to win: 4/6 (bet365)
