Fiona Ferro v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

The first meeting was a three-set affair, while the next was completely one-sided with Ferro dropping just one game in the match.

Ferro Rallies To Beat Burel

Second seed Fiona Ferro of France fought back from a set down to oust former junior No. 1 Clara Burel in the quarterfinal of the Lyon Open on Friday.

Outplayed by the 19-year-old Frenchwoman in the first set, the World No. 46 fought back to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 in an hour and 31 minutes.

This was not the first time in the tournament that the 23-year-old had to bounce back from a set down. Against Poland’s Magdalena Frech, she had lost the first set, but fought back to win the first round contest 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.

She had a relatively easier Round of 16 against Czech Republic’s Tereza Martincova, taking a 6-2, 4-1 lead before the latter retired with a back issue.

Friday’s win improved Ferro to 5-2 this year. On Saturday, she will be looking enter a third WTA final. She won her maiden title in Lausanne in 2019, defeating Alize Cornet in the final, and went on to add another in 2020, winning in Palermo, after beating Annett Kontaveit in the final.

Ferro, who also has four titles at the ITF circuit, reached the fourth round of her home slam for the first time last year.

Golubic Sends Minnen Packing

World No. 130 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland knocked out Belgium’s Greet Minnen on Friday to set up a semifinal matchup with the second seed on Saturday.

The Swiss qualifier needed an hour and 41 minutes to dispatch the World No. 113 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).

On Thursday, Golubic had stunned the third seed Caroline Garcia with a 6-1, 6-2 rout.

Having won her qualifiers against Romania’s Laura Paar and Switzerland’s Leonie Kung in straight sets, the Swiss had to battle past Belarus’ Vera Lapko in the first round of the main draw. The Belarusian had taken the first set, before Golubic rebounded to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Golubic, who failed to qualify for the Australian Open last month, has been very successful at the ITF events this year, finishing runner-up to Denmark’s Clara Tauson in UAE in January, and winning the title in France by beating Belgium’s Maryinna Zanevska in February. She also reached the semifinal of an ITF event in Germany.

The 28-year-old, who is a former World No. 51, won the Swiss Open title in 2016 by beating Kiki Bertens in the final. She also reached the final in Linz that year but finished runner-up to Dominika Cibulkova.

Ferro v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Both players are in good touch, but Ferro has produced better results at the highest level, while Golubic’s significant recent performances have come in the lower tier. That said, Ferro won’t take her opponent lightly, as she is on a five-match winning streak and outplayed the third seed Garcia in the Round of 16. Expect Golubic to give a tough fight, but Ferro should still win the contest.

Tip: Ferro to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
