Dan Evans v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

The pair have met twice before on the senior tour. Chardy won a match on clay playing for France in the Davis Cup in 2017, but, at their last meeting, at the Murray River Open in Melbourne, just a month ago, Evans won their semi-final for the loss of just four games.

Evans, First ATP title in Melbourne

British world number one Evans had a fine start to 2021,winning his first senior ATP career title at the Murray River Open warm-up in Melbourne, prior to the Australian Open.

That run saw him beat Borna Coric, and then Chardy in the semi-finals, before he handed Felix Auger-Aliassime his latest defeat in a final. He went through the entire event without dropping a set, and, as a result, entered the world’s top 30 for the first time.

Buoyed by that success, he had high hopes of a good run at the Australian Open, especially as he faced fellow Brit Cameron Norrie in the first round,.

But he slumped to a disappointing straight set loss to his compatriot, making 56 unforced errors and struggling with his second serve.

He has not played a match since, but has been hard at work on the practice court.

Chardy Enjoying a Good Run in 2021

It has been 12 years since Chardy won his only ATP singles title, although he has enjoyed subsequent success on the doubles’ court, winning seven tournaments and reaching the final of the French Open in 2019.

Chardy played comparatively little in 2020, and, after lockdown, did not win any match in the main draw of an ATP event.

However, he has already done much better in 2021, reaching the quarter-final in Antalya and the semi-final in Murray River before that defeat to Evans.

He had the misfortune, though, to meet the eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Australian Open.

Last week he had to qualify for the Rotterdam Open but, having done so, had two big wins over Ugu Humbert and David Goffin, before eventually bowing out to Andrey Rublev, the world number eight, in three sets.

Evans v Chardy Prediction and Tip

Evans won their last match just a month ago, and must start the favourite to do so again, especially as he is well-rested after not  playing for the past few weeks.

Tip: Evans to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
